To our well beloved in Christ Maxwell Homfray Smith Clerk Master of Arts Greeting
We admit you to the Vicarage of the Parish Church of Chippenham in the County of Wilts within our Diocese and Jurisdiction now vacant by the resignation of Canon John Rich the last Incumbent there to which you are presented unto us by the Dean and Chapter of the Cathedral Church of Christ in Oxford the true and undoubted Patrons thereof as is asserted And we do hereby duly and canonically institute you in and to the said Vicarage and invest you with all and singular the rights members and appurtenances thereto belonging you having first in our presence taken such oaths and made and subscribed such declarations as are by law or custom required And we do by these presents commit unto you the cure of the souls of the Parishioners of the said Parish and the government of the church aforesaid Saving always to us and our successors our Episcopal rights and the dignity and honour of our Cathedral Church of Bristol.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hand and caused our Episcopal Seal to be hereunto affixed Dated the twenty third day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand nine hundred and five and in the eighth year of our translation.
