Robert Warren GUMBLETON

He was described as of Glanatore, nr. Tallow, Co. Waterford, Ireland.

In 1775, he leased some land in co. Waterford to Thomas Garde.

He married Margaret Bowen in 1787, at St Nicholas’ Church, Cork. Various lands in Waterford were settled on her at marriage.

At some point he was awarded the freedom of the City of Cork.

Also in 1787, he sold a pair of horses. The advertisement gave his address as No. 8, York-street [Cork].

In 1833, he was lampooned in the Tipperary Free Press for bringing charges of singing treason songs against a poor itinerant minstrel.

In 1834 he died, aged 81, after a short illness, at his house on Patrick's Hill, Cork.

On 20 Jan 1835, Letters of Administration were granted to Richard Gumbleton, his son: one of the executors named in his will. At this date, Robert Warren's widow and three of his sons (Richard, John Bowen and George) were all alive, his other son having died.

There was a problem with his will because since making it and four subsequent codicils, he had acquired more property which was not covered by any of the bequests in them. He was therefore declared to have died partially intestate. In order to clarify matters, make provision for the widow and prevent future property disputes, the widow and three brothers jointly signed a Deed of Family Arrangement.
