Mary Ann GUMBLETON, a daughter of Josiah William Dornford GUMBLETON and Lydia Gumbleton, was born 23 Sep 1839 at Staverton Row, Walworth (in the Newington RD), Surrey and baptised 13 Oct 1839 at St Mary Newington.

In 1841 she was living with her parents in East Lane Walworth, Surrey. In 1851 she was still with her parents, living at 4 Tiverton Street, Newington, Surrey.

In 1 Feb 1863 she was married in Camberwell, Surrey to Samuel MECHAM, a merchant's clerk, son of George Mecham. They had the following children:

  • Arthur Samuel MECHAM, born 26 Mar 1864 at 8 Killbowin Terrace, Commercial Road, Peckham, Camberwell, Surrey.
  • Albert William (Bertie) MECHAM, b 1865, Camberwell, Surrey.
  • Flora Lydia MECHAM, b.1866, Camberwell, Surrey. She married Clement ALLEN, 1890 in Camberwell.
  • Walter Henry MECHAM, b.1868, Camberwell, Surrey
  • Frederick MECHAM, born 1869, Camberwell and died 1871, Camberwell.
  • Alice Mary MECHAM, b.1871, Camberwell, Surrey. She married Thomas Irwin POTTER in 1894. She died in 1958. They lived in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
  • Edith Clara MECHAM, b.1872, Camberwell, Surrey
  • Jessie Ada MECHAM, b.1873, Camberwell, Surrey
  • Georgina Elizabeth MECHAM, b.1875, Camberwell, Surrey

In 1889, Samuel remarried a Caroline Amelia Marder in Camberwell He died in St Thomas's Hospital, in 1906.
