| John Gumbleton was born in Co. Cork, Ireland, on 14 Nov 1861.
On 15 May 1877 he arrived as an immigrant at Boston Massachusetts, on board SS Samaria, which had sailed from Liverpool (England) and Queenstown (Ireland). He was listed as a labourer, aged 22. John Gumbleton Emigrated from Ireland in 1874. On 1 Mar 1895, at Portland, Maine, he became a naturalised American citizen. The naturalisation papers give his date and place of birth as 14 Nov 1861, County Cork, Ireland, and his arrival in the USA as 15 May 1877, at Boston Massachusetts. Nothing has been found of him until the 1900 US Census, where he is recorded with his wife and family in Ward 13, Boston, Massachusetts. His wife, Annie, née Smith, had immigrated from Ireland in 1881, so they had presumably been married since their separate arrivals in the USA. John was recorded in the census as a labourer. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
