Description
Alderbury is a small village, about 4 miles south-east of the city of Salisbury, in Wiltshire, England. The area around Alderbury is dominated by two great estates: Clarendon Park, to the north, which was originally a Royal hunting forest, and Longford Park, to the west, which has been home to the Earls of Radnor and their ancestors since 1717.The population of Alderbury in 1851 was 742.
In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Alderbury like this:
ALDERBURY, a village, a parish, a subdistrict, a hundred, and a district in Wilts. The village stands on the river Avon, near the Salisbury branch of the South-western railway, 3 miles SE of Salisbury; and has a post office under Salisbury.
