Found Lying in Car Park

Somerset Girl Accused of Suicide Attempt
Edith Gumbleton (19), described as of Harts Cottages, Enmore, Bridgwater, Somerset, was at Croydon, yesterday, committed for trial to the next Croydon Quarter Session on a charge of attempting to commit suicide by taking camphor.

P.C. Vanderhoven said that about midnight on January 22 he found her lying in the car park at Purley Way, Bathing Pool, with a carton which smelt strongly of camphor by her side. She was taken to hospital.

Inspector Townsend said that Gumbleton's handbag contained a bottle labelled 'Liniment, poison' and a quantity of correspondence.

The girl was told that she would be looked after in hospital pending the trial.
