Josiah William GUMBLETON was a son of Josiah William Dornford GUMBLETON and Lydia (nee Revell). He was baptised 20 Aug 1833 at St Marylebone, Middlesex.

At the age of 7, in the 1841 census, he was living with his maternal grandparents in Ibstock. In 1851, Joseph GUMBLETON, aged 17, was living at 4 Tiverton Street, Newington, Surrey with his parents.

In 1855, he gained a Merchant Seaman's Ticket, which cited voyages he had been on in that year. Nothing else is known about his sea-going life.

On 1 Jun 1867 Josiah William Gumbleton, merchant, and Anna Regina STOLLMEYER, daughter of Conrad F STOLLMEYER, were married at Port of Spain, Trinidad.

He is assumed to have died in Trinidad.
