William A. "Bud" Gumbleton, 93, of W. Irving St., Corry, Pa., passed away on January 30, 2013, at UPMC Hamot, Erie, Pa. Bud was born on June 8, 1919 in Corry, Pa., a son of the late William J. and Andrea Thompson Gumbleton. He graduated from Corry High School in 1937 and was a lifelong resident of Corry. Bud was a star basketball player in high school and went on to play semi-pro ball for Ty Crandall's All-Stars, in the 1940s. He married Ruth Lindsley Gumbleton on March 2, 1946, in Corry. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church in Corry, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and on the Church Council. Bud was employed by Aero Supply Mfg Co., Corry Jamestown Corporation and Corry Contract Company. He served as a member of the Corry Housing Authority, president of the Corry High School Alumni Association, the Corry Beaver Club and as a Charter Member of the Corry Area Unit of the American Cancer Society. He was president of the Cancer Society for several years and was chairman of the Income Development Committee. Bud enjoyed wood crafting, working in the lawn and garden, all sports, including golf, and traveling. Bud and Ruth were co-holders of the 8th Annual Rotary Club Citizen of the Year, in 1997. Bud was a loving husband and a friend to many people, and he will be missed. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Saxton and Florence Marlowe; and a niece, Mary Marlowe Witt. Bud is survived by his wife, Ruth; and several nieces and nephews, Michael Saxton of Plano, Texas, Andrea Saxton Lloyd and her husband Ron of Gettysburg, Pa., Tom Saxton and his wife Laura of Export, Pa., Kathy Marlowe Snider and her husband Bob of Centerville, Ohio, Jean Marlowe Christie and her husband Pat of Erie, Pa., Bill Marlowe and his wife Maribeth of Concord, Ohio, Bob Marlowe and his wife Cheryl of Willoughby, Ohio, Ruth Ann Galbreath Grice and her husband Bob of Corry, Pa., and Jane Galbreath Cowell and her husband Richard of Harborcreek, Pa. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Corry Public Library, 117 W. Washington St., Corry, PA 16407, or the Salvation Army, Corry Corps, 127 W. Washington St., Corry, PA 16407. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N.
