The death occurred recently at his home, in St James-street, of Mr Charles Gumbleton, at the age of 65. Mr Gumbleton was well known in Shaftesbury and district and prior to his retirement a few years ago was bailiff to Shaftesbury County Court for many years. His wife died some 22 years ago, and his eldest daughter, Mrs Elsie Roswell, died at Morden, Surrey, at the age of 44, a few days before her father.

The funeral of Mr Gumbleton at St James' Church was conducted by the Rev. Newman. The mourners included:- Mr and Mrs E Gumbleton, Mr and Mrs B Gumbleton, Mr and Mrs C Gumbleton and Mr and Mrs T Gumbleton (sons and daughters in law). Mr and Mrs E Hoskins, Mr and Mrs W Stokes, Mr and Mrs W Silman (sons in law and daughters), and Mr W Roswell (son in law), Mr C Roswell and Mr H Gumbleton (nephews), Mrs]G Gumbleton (sister in law), Mrs Rose and Mrs J Churchill (nieces), Mrs Taylor. Miss Alner, and Mr F Alner (cousins) and many friends and neighbours. Members of the Shaftesbury Lodge of Oddfellows were also present.

The family of the late Mr Gumbleton wish to thank their many friends for messages of sympathy and beautiful floral tributes.
