| Flora Martha Gumbleton was the eldest daughter of Morgan Gumbleton and his wife Mary (nee Hazell). She was born in 1859 in the registration district of Alderbury, which includes the village of West Grimstead. The Familysearch website gives a baptism for her on 28 Sep 1859 in "Wiltshire" but the exact parish has not been found.
By 1861, her parents had moved to Finsbury Street, Portsea, Hampshire, where Flora is recorded in the census, with them, aged 1. By 1871, Flora, aged 11, had left school and was working as a servant in the household of her paternal grandparents, William and Mary Gumbleton, in West Grimstead. Some time before 1881, Morgan Gumbleton and his family moved to Llanllechid, in Wales. In the census of that year, Flora, aged 22 is working as a servant in the household of Elizabeth Douglas, an annuitant, at High Street Caxton House, Bangor. On 29 Apr 1881 at the Cathedral Church, Bangor, Flora was married to John Galloway, aged 28, a game keeper. Flora and John must have moved to Scotland and appear in the 1901 census at Fir Park Cottage No 5, Dryfesdale, Dumfriesshire. Living with them were their 7 children:
