Richard Gomeldon was a son of Roger GOMELDON, and Cicily, nee WILCOX. He was baptised 22 Jun 1617 the church of St Andrew Undershaft, in the City of London. His father died the following year and Richard, still an infant was a beneficiary of his father's will.

In 1647, his mother died and left him her house in St Mary Axe, in the City.

In 1658, he and his brother William Gomeldon brought a case to the Court of Chancery, against Elizabeth Thorold, a widow. It related to "money matters" but I have not researched the details.

In 1662, a grant of arms was made to Richard and his brother William. At this point Richard is described as merchant of London, but it is not certain what kind of goods he was dealing in.

Richard died in 1678 and was buried in the church of St Andrew Undershaft, in the City of London.

In his will, proved the same year, the bulk of his estate was left to his brother William, including his house in St Mary Axe. There was evidently some dispute about the will and a probate lawsuit "Gomeldon v Pecke" ensued. Presumably this was connected with Jane Peck, nee Gomeldon, Richard's niece, but the details are not known.

There is no evidence that he ever married or had children, although Peter Swan has offered a theory that he could have a secret family in Ireland and thus could be the progenitor of the Gumbletons of Ireland.
