| Mary Gumbleton was born in 1868 in the Brentford Registration District, Middlesex. She was a daughter of Solomon Gumbleton and his wife Maria, nee Osman. At that time he was a gardener working in the grounds of The Spring, a large house in Church Road, Hanwell, Middlesex. Mary was baptised on 2 Aug at Hanwell Parish Church.
The 1871 census shows her, aged 2, living with her parents at Gardener's Cottage, The Spring, Hanwell. By 1881, they had moved to Herrott Villas, Hanwell: Mary was attending school and her father was a florist and gardener. In 1891 she was still living at home but the family had moved to 17 Alfred Terrace, Rosebank Rd, Hanwell. Now, aged 22, she was a stationer's assistant. She had left home by the 1901 census but has not been found at that time. Her father died in 1906 and her mother in 1910. Nothing further is known about Mary until 1939, when she was living in Fulham. She died unmarried in Braintree, Essex, in 1952. | ||
